Over the 2020-2021 break, we changed our name from ‘Santa Cruz Derby Girls’ (SCDG) to Santa Cruz Roller Derby (SCRD). This removes the gendered language from our name, and proudly presents a united, organizational position that includes folks of all genders who make up our league.

This change speaks to a more modern approach to roller derby that fiercely protects our inclusivity and diversity, and provides a safe, welcoming, and empowering environment for our community of athletes, officials and volunteers.

It extends our vision to the Santa Cruz community through the personal growth of our members, and is representative of our commitment to ever-evolving change as we rise to each challenge.

To complement our new name, our league now has entire new brand complete with logo, wordmarks, and a full brand kit.

This logo brings together the design aesthetics our league loves, pays homage to our location on the Santa Cruz shores, draws graphical inspiration from quad wheels, and deeply represents our commitment to the fact that “all bodies are derby bodies” by removing a single physical representation of a person from our brand kit.

We’re so proud of this new name and logo and how they represent not only our past and our present, but who we want to continue to be in the future.

Our derby community, and the larger Santa Cruz community, deserve a place where they can skate safely and be welcomed without fear.

We know SCRD now can confidently and outwardly be that place.
