Harbor Hellcats to take on Undead Bettys
practiceOn Saturday, August 21, 2010, SCDG's Harbor Hellcats will match up against Eastern Contra Costa County's Undead Bettys in front of another sold out crowd at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium.  Watch for two new Hellcats to make their debut on the track:  InflictHer Pain and Fleetwood Smack.  Polly Kneesya will also return to the track after a broken ankle took her out of play in April, just two bouts into her first season. The Hellcats are 2-1 so far this year and they have three bouts left before the 2010 Season is finished.

For more information about the Harbor Hellcats, visit our website.  Information about Eastern Contra Costa County's Undead Betty's can be obtained from their website.

Each SCDG home bout is assigned a theme and fans are encouraged to participate.  This bout's theme is Derby Girls in Space.
Note to Press:
SCDG has a limited number of press passes available for these bouts. Interested accredited journalists, photojournalists, photographers, and videographers should request a press pass. SCDG skaters, coaches and league members are available for interviews. If you want more information about the basics of the game, roller derby terminology or the league itself, please don't hesitate to ask. Santa Cruz Derby Groms New Logopractice
Jimbo Phillips, best known for his graphic art designs for Santa Cruz Skateboards/Surfboards and as the creator of SCDG's main logo, has designed another fantastic logo for the league, this time for the Santa Cruz Derby Groms, SCDG's junior derby program.  Look for this new logo on SCDG merchandise in the near future.  To learn more about Jimbo Phillips, visit his website.

The Groms will have their final half-time bout of the season on August 21, 2010.  The Sugar Skulls are currently just one win behind the Bumper Scars.

Two Groms, Hana Slamtana and Slambi, recently attended JuniorCon, the first junior roller derby convention, in Seattle, WA, where they particpated in various clinics on drills, gear, and strategy.

August's Featured Non-Profit: The Homeless Garden Projecthomeless garden project
At each bout, SCDG features a local non-profit organization as part of our efforts to give back to the community.  A portion of the night's proceeds will be donated to the featured organization. The Homeless Garden Project's mission is to bring together people from throughout the community in the beauty and security of their certified organic garden; to practice and teach principles of economic and ecological sustainability through classes and hands-on experience; and to provide homeless men and women job training and transitional employment.  In 2010, HGP celebrates 20 years of making an impact in the lives of those who find few opportunities for training, employment and an improved way of life!  To learn more about the Homeless Garden Project, visit their website, visit their farm, or call 831-426-3609.
