Santa Cruz Derby Girls - October 1, 2009

The Santa Cruz Derby Girls are thrilled to announce an added October date to their 2009 season, and to make the night even more memorable, it will be a double header!

The Sac City Rollers' Folsom Prison Bruisers will challenge the SCDG Harbor Hellcats in the first bout, and their Capital Punishers will take on our own Boardwalk Bombshells in the final event. This will be a night of roller derby not to be missed!

What to wear?

Wondering about the theme for this extra-special double-header? Zombies! We're encouraging our friends and fans to dress up and get down in their un-dead best. After all, Halloween is right around the corner...

Why it's cool to be an eleven-year old girl...

The Santa Cruz Derby Girls are extra proud of the Stingrays, the SCCYS U12 Rec Soccer team they have sponsored this fall. These girls are undefeated so far, and playing like champs! Our own Liv N. Letdie has been pitching in with coaching help at practices, and we suspect she's scouting for our Jr. Derby program. Check out a post-game photo here.

What else?

The Santa Cruz teams will officially be off-season until March, but will host lots of public events in Santa Cruz County in their down time so you won't get too lonely. Be on the lookout:

October 2nd - "Whip It" movie premier! Drew Barrymore directs Ellen Page in a roller derby flick based on Shauna Cross' novel "Derby Girl"

October 3rd - SCDG travels to Paso Robles to take on CCRD.
