Our May Derby Girl of the Month is a true SCDG Veteran! Skye Skrapper joined our new player bootcamp in January 2010 almost immediately after seeing the 2009 major motion picture “Whip It!” Eight years later, and at age 54, Skrapper is our oldest and one of our most dedicated (and tallest!) players. But with her personal motto being “I’ll skate til I break,” Skye Skrapper is still going strong as a Harbor Hellcat, thanks in part to her long history of physical fitness! She is a former Jazzerciser, competitive swimmer, team sports player (softball, basketball, track, and volleyball), and recreational skater at the Seabright Roller Palladium and West Cliff.
Skye Skrapper is currently doing the job of two women and making it look easy! As the league’s Promotions Director, she is in charge of getting the word out on the streets about our upcoming events via posters and flyers. She is also our Games Ticketing Manager which requires serious attention to detail as she oversees all of our guest lists, volunteer lists, performers, etc. for our home games at the Santa Cruz Civic.
In her eight years with the league, she has also been on the merchandise committee and been a Interleague liaison, helping to schedule our teams against other local leagues. Skrapper and her wife are also always happy to volunteer at our many community events and public appearances like the Hops ‘N Barley Beer Festival and Open Streets Santa Cruz.
SCDG Coach Mean Bean Casserole agrees that Skrapper always puts in 110%, “Skrapper is the kind of person you want on your league and team. She has an incredible work ethic on and off the track and brings an unmatched derby spirit.”
In addition to skating and holding down multiple league jobs, Skrapper has a beautiful and full personal life with her fulltime job, her wife, five adult children, three grandchildren, and a new puppy!
